Campus E-Mail Policy

Revision Date: 05/16/2014

Responsible Office: Computing Center

Louisiana Tech University electronic mail (e-mail) users are required to comply with State, Federal law and University policies including Campus Computer Use Policy (2302). Louisiana Tech University e-mail users shall follow standards of professional and personal ethics and conduct.

The use of a University-provided e-mail account is a privilege granted by the University, in its sole discretion, to facilitate the University’s mission. No student, employee or other person or entity has a right to a University e-mail account. Misuse and abuse of University e-mail privileges may result sanctions ranging from use of University technology resources to dismissal from the University.

Eligibility to use a University-provided a-mail account is dependent upon an individual having an affiliation with the University. When that affiliation ends, the eligibility to use a University e-mail account also ends. The University may elect to continue the account for use by the individual or another University entity if doing so furthers the University missions.

Each individual assigned a University e-mail account is responsible actions taken with that e-mail account. Accounts and account passwords are not to be shared with any other individuals. This includes family, friends, roommates, supervisors, etc.

University e-mail will not be used for personal commercial purposes or for personal financial or other gain.

Sensitive institutional information will not be sent via e-mail, unless specific steps are taken to secure and encrypt the transmission.
