eduroam at Louisiana Tech University
Louisiana Tech University is now a participant in eduroam, "a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community." eduroam allows visitors at participating institutions to connect with their home institution credentials, "eduroam acts as one large, world-wide, wireless hotspot."

Installers for various platforms is available at cat.eduroam.org  The installer will install a certificate to verify your connection to Louisiana Tech University and create the wireless network. This should only be used by Louisiana Tech University employees and students.  Visitors from other eduroam sites should use their home institution configuration tool or instructions.

From Wikipedia:

"eduroam (education roaming) is an international roaming service forusers in research, higher education and further education. It provides researchers, teachers and students easy and secure network access when visiting an institution other than their own. Authentication of users is performed by their home institution, using the same credentials as when they access the network locally, while authorisation to access the Internet and possibly other resources is handled by the visited institution. Users do not have to pay for using eduroam."

What does this mean for you? If you are traveling to the campus of a participating institution, you can connect to their eduroam network using your Louisiana Tech credentials. No need to request guest access, or use generally severely limited guest networks. eduroam is a reciprocal service, so if you have visitors to Louisiana Tech from another eduroam participant, they will immediately have wireless access here.

A list of U.S. participants can be found at:

A world wide list is available at

How do you connect? eduroam works in much the same way as the existing LaTechWPA2 wireless network. Configuration is identical. The only difference is that you must use " This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it " as your username rather than just using your "username" as you would with LaTechWPA2. This allows the system to determine where to direct the login. You must use the full " This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it " even if using the eduroam service at Tech.  You should also download the LaTech CA certificate, available in the Downloads section of this website, and install it in your systems CA root store.  The Windows installer above will do this automatically.
