How to access the Mainframe PDF Print E-mail
Subject: Attention all Mainframe and CICS users

How do I install programs to access the Louisiana Tech Mainframe?

You should start using the new software (discussed here) Now.  After June 15th we will require secure SSL access to the LaTech mainframe.  After this date, the TCP3270 mainframe program seen above and other windows based emulation like hummingbird hostexplorer will no longer work.  The computing center has acquired a new web-based emulation package for Microsoft Windows users. All versions of windows are supported (32bit & 64bit).  This Microsoft Windows software is called BlueZone and should already be installed on your PC via a campus network deployment. It's Icon looks like one of the following images depending upon your default internet browser.

Active Image or Active Image

This Bluezone program Icon has been deployed/installed by our Patchlink system.  All you need to do is start using this new program and stop using your old mainframe icon today. If you don't have this icon on your desktop or need more information on the installation of the BlueZone software for Windows see the Microsoft Windows section and links below.

Finally, all MacIntosh and Linux users need only change their tn3270 program settings and should skip down to their appropriate section below.

Microsoft Windows Users

Most Internet users on campus use Internet Explorer as their web browser and should click on the following link for help installing the Bluezone mainframe software.

Internet Explorer users click here. http://emulator.latech.edu/iehelp

or if you prefer Mozilla/Firefox click here. http://emulator.latech.edu/firefoxhelp

MacIntosh Users

Mac users need to click on the following link on how to change their TN3270X program to use a SSL connection. http://emulator.latech.edu/machelp

Linux/Unix Users

If you are a Linux user you should download and install the GNU SSL tn3270 emulator located at the following web site and enable SSL for host cics.latech.edu. http://sourceforge.net/projects/x3270   Don't worry if you don't know what any of this means; you probably aren't a linux user.  Please return to the windows user section. Smile

Home Users

The LaTech VPN is still required to access the LaTech Mainframe from off campus. & you will, also, need to browse to or click on http://emulator.latech.edu/bzweb1/cics and make the necessary changes described above to use this new program for windows. The Bluezone software has been acquired with a concurrent/metered license so install it whereever you need it. And, the MacIntosh and Linux mainframe programs are free for commercial and non-commercial use.

If you have any problems making the switch, please contact our helpdesk by calling 5300.
