Louisiana Tech University employs a large number of students in a variety of capacities. Currently, there are no positions available as a lab or helpdesk consultant, but we always take applications in the event that a position becomes available. Applications are available online (below), or you can obtain one from the front desk of the Computing Center, located in the basement of Wyly Tower.
The following positions are available for students seeking computer-related employment experience at Louisiana Tech:
A Lab Consultant is required to show up for work punctually, organize printouts, and troubleshoot basic printer problems. A lab consultant must have a basic knowledge of Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003, Blackboard, Webmail, and BOSS to be able to answer students’ questions. He/she must be able to courteously approach a student who is not following lab rules. A lab consultant must be able and willing to work at least one late night a week (either 11 a.m. - 3 a.m. or 3 a.m. - 7 a.m.).
The Helpdesk Consultant position requires troubleshooting computer, network and printer problems. He/she must be able to handle phone calls and deskside support professionally while correctly and clearly answering questions. This position requires significant training, so applicants must be available for work for one full academic year without interruption. There is one dispatch position available for the summer. Most dispatch positions are paid from work study funds; however, this one is not. This position requires that you work 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with limited overtime. It includes quarter breaks. Students must be able to communicate well and be mature, dependable, and trustworthy. Duties include assisting staff operators with processing batch production, printing and report distribution, and other duties. You must be enrolled at least part-time during the summer to qualify for this job. Please contact Gene Easterline or Lucretia McKaskle at 257-2893 or come to the Computing Center for additional information. Please return completed applications to the Computing Center, located in the basement of Wyly Tower. |
